Objectives
Provide training to Indian scientists as the Indian Meteorological Department
begins its use of Doppler weather radar.
Accomplishments
CIMMS and CAPS scientists trained three scientists on the control and
scanning of radar data, the use of radar data in severe weather forecasting,
rainfall estimation, and flood prediction, and in the assimilation
of radar data into numerical weather prediction models. Lakshmanan
visited two Indian radar sites and assisted radar operators in defining
a routine volume coverage pattern suitable for these various uses.
