ROC Special Project – Emergency Mobile Radar to Supplement WSR-88D Observations during Hurricanes

Objectives
Test WDSS-II software and point-to-point data communications link in preparation
for using SMART radar as a back-up to the WSR-88D network during hurricane
season.
Accomplishments
This project intends to prepare SMART radars for emergency use by the
National Weather Service as backups to the WSR-88D system during landfalling
hurricanes. A wireless communications system for point-to-point transfer
of data from the radar into a NWS forecast office was installed and
successfully tested. his project is ongoing.
